An Indian IP address in Qatar, Kuwait, Oman and Bahrain

Doha, Kuwait City, Muscat, Manama: wherever in the Gulf you live, Indian websites and apps can tell you are not in India. Here is how to choose the right server, connect on Android, and know what to expect.

Which server do you actually need?

The most common mistake is connecting to a server that is near India and expecting an Indian address. A VPN gives you the IP address of the country the server is in, nothing else. So:

Singapore is a free server and it is in Asia, but it gives you a Singapore address. Indian sites see a visitor from Singapore, which to them is just as foreign as Qatar or Kuwait. For an Indian IP address, choose India.

Connecting on Android

  1. Install Cybo VPN from Google Play on your phone, tablet or Android TV.
  2. Try the free plan, which needs no account: tap connect and Cybo uses one of its free servers.
  3. Subscribe to PRO in the app to unlock India and every other location, with no ads.
  4. Open the location list, choose India and connect. Allow Android's VPN request the first time.
  5. Search "what is my IP" to check that the address now shows India.

What to expect from an Indian address

With the India server connected, websites see your connection arriving from Mumbai. Indian sites that change what they show depending on where you are will usually show you their Indian version. A few things are tied to you rather than to your connection and do not change:

  • the country of your Google Play account, which decides which apps the store offers;
  • the mobile number that receives your one-time passwords;
  • your device location, if a browser or app has permission to read it;
  • anything a service has set on your account, such as its country or region.

For banking and other Indian accounts, see using Indian apps and websites from abroad.

Paying in your currency

Subscriptions go through Google Play, which shows the exact price in riyals, dinars or rials before you confirm and handles renewals. You can cancel at any time in the Play Store's subscriptions. The plans are listed on the home page with an approximate local price.

Within the rules

Each of these countries has its own rules on VPN use. Cybo is a privacy tool for an Indian IP address while you live abroad, not a way around local law; you are responsible for following the rules where you live.

Cybo keeps no activity logs and uses WireGuard encryption. One PRO subscription covers up to five devices, including Android TV. In the UAE or Saudi Arabia? See the UAE guide or the Saudi Arabia guide.
