How to get an Indian IP address in the UAE

If you live in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah or anywhere else in the Emirates, every website you open sees a UAE address. Here is how to get an Indian one on your Android phone, tablet or TV, and what that does and does not change.

Why your IP address matters

Every device on the internet has an IP address, and websites use it to guess where you are. From the UAE, Indian websites and apps see a foreign visitor. Many of them are built first for people in India, so from abroad you may get a different version of the site, a page asking you to confirm your location, or a message that something is only available in India.

A VPN (virtual private network) sends your connection through a server in another country. With a server in India, the websites you visit see an Indian IP address instead of your UAE one. Nothing is installed on the website's side and nothing changes on your SIM; the app simply routes your traffic through India while it is switched on.

Step by step on Android

  1. Install Cybo VPN from Google Play. It runs on Android phones and tablets, and on Android TV.
  2. Try it free. Open the app and tap connect. The free plan uses servers in Singapore, Germany and the United States, supported by a banner ad, and needs no account. It is a good way to see how the app works before paying for anything.
  3. Upgrade to PRO for India. The India server, in Mumbai, is a PRO server. Subscribe inside the app through Google Play; billing and cancelling are handled by your Play account.
  4. Choose India and connect. Pick India from the list of locations and tap connect. The first time, Android asks you to allow the VPN connection; accept it.
  5. Check it worked. Search for "what is my IP" in your browser. The result should now show India.

What an Indian IP address changes, and what it does not

A VPN changes one thing: the address websites see. It is worth knowing what stays the same, because it saves a lot of confusion.

  • Your Google Play country stays the same. Which apps the Play Store offers you depends on your Play account's country and payment profile, not on your IP address.
  • Your phone number stays the same. One-time passwords from Indian services still go to whichever number is registered with them.
  • Your accounts stay the same. An Indian address does not change who you are signed in as, or any rule a service applies to your account.
  • Your phone's location can still be read. If a browser or app has permission to use your device location, it can see the UAE regardless of your IP. Check the site's permissions if it still thinks you are abroad.

Staying within the rules

The UAE has its own laws on how a VPN may be used, as most countries do. Cybo is a privacy tool that gives you an Indian IP address so you can reach your own accounts and services back home. It is not a way around local rules, and you are responsible for following the law where you live.

One subscription for the whole household

A PRO subscription covers up to five devices on one account: your phone, a tablet, a family member's phone and the Android TV in the living room, for example. Android TV is part of PRO. See a VPN with an India server for Android TV and the Android TV setup guide.

Cybo keeps no activity logs: no record of your IP address, the sites you visit or your DNS queries. Connections use WireGuard with ChaCha20-Poly1305 encryption.
