An Indian IP address in Saudi Arabia

Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam, Al Khobar or a work site far from any of them: from Saudi Arabia, Indian websites see a Saudi visitor. This guide covers getting an Indian IP address on Android, and what to do when a site still behaves as if you are abroad.

Who this is for

Millions of Indians and Pakistanis live and work in the Kingdom. Many keep a life back home online: accounts, family groups, Indian apps and websites they used before they moved. Some of those work the same from anywhere. Others notice a foreign address and show a different page, ask more questions or offer less. An Indian IP address makes your connection look the way it did at home.

For Pakistanis in particular: Cybo has a server in India, not in Pakistan. It is the right tool if what you need is an Indian IP address; it will not give you a Pakistani one.

How to set it up

  1. Get Cybo VPN on Google Play on your Android phone, tablet or Android TV.
  2. Connect once on the free plan to see how it works. Free uses Singapore, Germany and the United States, with a banner ad, and needs no account.
  3. Subscribe to PRO in the app through Google Play. PRO unlocks every location, including India, and removes the ads.
  4. Pick India (Mumbai) and tap connect. Accept Android's request to allow a VPN connection the first time.
  5. Confirm the address. Search "what is my IP" and check that it says India.

When a site still thinks you are in Saudi Arabia

If the VPN is connected to India and a website still shows its foreign version, the IP address is usually not the reason. Work through these in order:

  • Close and reopen the app or browser tab. Pages loaded before you connected keep the answer they got from your Saudi address.
  • Clear the site's cookies. Many sites remember your country from an earlier visit and do not ask again.
  • Check location permission. A browser or app allowed to read your device location sees where you really are, whatever your IP address. Turn that permission off for the site if it does not need it.
  • Look at your account, not the connection. Some services decide what you get from the country on your account, your payment card or your phone number. A VPN changes none of those.
  • Check your Play Store country. The apps Google Play offers you follow your Play account's country, not your IP address.

Wi-Fi in shared accommodation

A lot of people in Saudi Arabia are on shared Wi-Fi, in a compound, a staff building or a flat with housemates. A VPN encrypts your traffic between your phone and the Cybo server, so other people on the same network cannot read what you send. Cybo uses WireGuard with ChaCha20-Poly1305 encryption and keeps no activity logs.

Within the rules

Cybo gives you an Indian IP address so you can use your own accounts and services from home while you live abroad. It is a privacy tool, not a way around the rules of the Kingdom, and you are responsible for following the law where you live.

Family and TV

One PRO subscription covers up to five devices on one account, and Android TV is included. If the family shares a TV, read a VPN with an India server for Android TV. Living elsewhere in the Gulf? See the guides for the UAE and for Qatar, Kuwait, Oman and Bahrain.
